Overkill's The Walking Dead will bring us the beauty of Unreal Engine
In year 2012 Starbreeze bought Overkill, and with release of PayDay 2 a year later they had more profits than they had in all previous years together. After that CEO of Overkill was promoted to run the whole company, and one of his decisions was that their games should be powered by the engine made by Grin, a development studio from Sweden that is now only a part of history. On the other hand, Starbreeze has Diesel engine seen more as a disadvantage than an advantage for their new projects, including The Walking Dead, so in 2015 they spent 8.6 million dollars on Valhalla Engine.
However, Valhalla does not seem to have what Overkill's The Walking Dead game demands, so cooperative killing of the zombies moves to Unreal Engine 4. Starbreeze still claims that buying Valhalla launcher was a clever business decision, and now the same will serve as a plugin for Unreal Engine.
It is also rumored that it will not affect the release of The Walking Dead, which means we are going to play alive dead in the second half of 2018.
