Call of Duty will most likely not evolve into a model of the game as a service

Lately more and more companies in gaming industry have been catching for concept of the game as a service. In short, the game with the model as service is that game which with new updates and maintaining various events for a long time keeps players for many years. This approach to development of videogames did not pass by Activision either, however, the company manager explained that Call of Duty has more benefits by publishing new titles on an annual basis.

"I think we were trying to find the right solution for each franchise individually, and Call of Duty was definitely benefiting from the annual cycle of new released sequels," he said in an extensive interview with Game Informer. Namely, Eric Hirshberg points out that many people over time switch to other things, and they decide to return to the franchise to check what brings the new sequel.

Director of Activision then touched on comparisons with Destiny, perhaps the most famous game with model of service that came out on the console. "We see it that sometimes is harder to bring a new player into an environment that feels like 'Oh, three years I`m behind my friend who in that time was playing the game hard'. So there are advantages and disadvantages on both sides."

Hirshberg has confirmed that for the time being Activision will release content for a wider range of Call of Duty games instead of giving full support one by one. "You see, we're starting to have success in publishing content wherever players are. You've just seen us release a big zombie pack for Black Ops III community, and that game is two and a half years old. "

In the end, he added that he and his team could "contribute more to the unification of player experiences if that will be the people that are moving from game to game".

If it became a service they would have to update the game frequently. Activision prefers to launch new CoD every year, take the money and drop support.

not that activision is doing this for the good of the gamers,  I dont think they think its as good a money maker as what they plan on doing.  Only time will tell how this all pans out.
