EA asked fans to stop distributing their intellectual property
GameSpy several years ago revived multiplayer components of numerous video games, and it did business until 2014 when its grave was digged. Of course, these "video games" could no longer be played online until the mode masters decided to launch a new project called Revive Network.
The main goal of Revive Network was clear as a white day: bring back multiplayer games whose online components were closed together with GameSpy. In three and a half years, the RN has revived its favorite titles including Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142 and Battlefield Heroes. However, to this project has also death clock ringed, and EA is responsible for it.
In particular, the legal team of Electronic Arts contacted Revive Network and "asked them nicely to stop distributing their intellectual property." Given that they are also great fans of the Battlefield franchise, they decided to respect their terms. So, Revive Network has disabled all downloads and eventually shutdown the web page.
"Before we leave the battlefield, we would like to engage all developers, artists and moderators, as well as every player who has helped us to make this a reality. Without you this would not work", they said.
Even though EA will get more tomatoes to the face, they really did their best to be kind enough to announce this news to the Revive Team. Maybe it has something to do with this tomato. But anyway, here are the shortened versions of their statement:
I'm writing on behalf of those people who created Battlefield. We noticed that Revive Network is dedicated to reviving older Battlefield games and is wonderful to see your enthusiasm. Not to boast, but also to give us nostalgia when dealing with the classic extensions of the Battlefiled franchise.
However, we need one favour: we must ask you to stop distributing our intellectual property. The point is that your website can easily mislead visitors to believe you are connected to EA.
Since you are a member of the Battlefield community, we know you are smart and you will appreciate that we have to protect our rights of intellectual property in the franchise. Please let us know if you agree with us and feel free to contact me for any other questions.
