Developer of PUBG announced a new game Ascent: Infinite Realm

  • 18

Bluehole Studios, the developer of the popular PUBG, today announced that it is working on a new game called Ascent: Infinite Realm that will take us to a completely different world than we have experienced in their online hit.

This MMORPG for PC will take us to a steampunk world where magic and technology coexist, the planet is destroyed, and people are trying to preserve life in floating cities. Since in the name of survival we will try to subdue the sky and what's left of the earth, we will choose between five different classes to conduct battle on the ground with robots or in the air with the airships.

One of the main features of AIR is "three-dimensional gameplay", meaning that we will run both on land and in the air at the same time, although the focus is on the latter. Apart from battles, airships will serve as a means of transport and some other co-op features. Additionally, this title will encourage fights between different factions by inviting the opposite sides to lead offensive or defensive foreign policy so that all players will experience differences in gameplay.

Finally, it is important to mention that from the battle you can rest by exploring the surrounding areas, by raising your own property, and you can contribute also to building a community.

It is still unknown when we will play Ascent: Infinite Realm, but publisher Kakao Games promised that we will be able to access beta testing in the first half of 2018 for which you can sign for on the official webpage of the game.

I wonder when they will announce PUBG is no longer in early access

Is this a different team than the one developing PUBG? Is PUBG supposed to be mostly finished and in sustainance mode so the team moved on to this new game?

The latter would be alarming because PUBG is definitely not close to a finished product.

Alarming yet incredibly (and increasingly) common for this jacked-up industry.

It's almost fun just imagining what other industries would look like if they could get away with the sort of stuff you can in gaming. Even ones quasi-related ones like other media---envision a writer pre-selling the outline of their book that gets little chunks filled in over time and corrected/edited eventually (well, unless they move to another one first.)

There seems to be some concern that PUBG is still in Early Access (and is quite a long way from being a finished product, despite its popularity) and Bluehole Studios may be spreading themselves too thin to work on a new title before PUBG has even officially released. So I think it's worth mentioning that Bluehole Studios are not a new studio or a particularly small one. They're 10 years old and have some very successful games under their belt (a couple of examples are TERA and Devilian).

I think the main reason that Bluehole are a relatively unknown company in the West is because they're Korean and have several titles that were only released in Asia. Even their worldwide titles all released in Asia long before hitting Europe and America. So they're not a well-known name in the West but I think we can rest assured that they have the financial and development resources to dedicate a team to this new title without diverting resources from PUBG. Bear in mind that PUBG is their most successful game to date so they're not going to jeopardise that success by abandoning it for a new project that has no guarantee of success. They're a pretty shrewd company, I sincerely doubt they'd be that foolhardy. I totally understand why PUBG players are concerned but I hope this alleviates some of that concern!

Cheers!

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying. For some reason I always thought Tera was from NCsoft.

Interstellar

It's a different team from PUBG. TERA was a nice idea but with the usual execution problems and Korean MMO issues. Maybe they'll learn to do something better for the Western audience with this.
