Display of history of Cree Indians in Civilization 6 has upset the chief of the group
Latest expansion for Civilization 6 has presented us with a new historical figure joining 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, the famous Queen of the United Kingdom Victoria, and the founder of the Mongolian Empire Genghis-khan. A new member who is tempted by global domination has become Pîhtokahanapiwiyin, better known as the chief Poundmaker, whom his Cree people remember as a peacemaker and defender of their people.
Of course, this has led to some controversy, because today's leader of the Cree Indians, the largest group of the First Nations settled in Canada, believes the tribal representation is insensitive and insulting to their values. Specifically, Milton Tootoosis said that the expansion "pervades the myth that the First Nations had similar values that respected the colonial culture, namely the conquest of other peoples and their access to their country". "It is not at all in line with our traditional ways and our view of the world," he continued, "it is a little dangerous for a company to maintain that ideology that is in opposition to what we know."
Furthermore, Tootoosis believes that 2K Games probably did not have a bad intent, but nevertheless regretted that the developer did not officially address the elders and cultural advisors of the Cree Indians before deciding to include the Poundmaker in the game.
