Denuvo, the company behind the world's most famous video game anti-piracy system, has been sold. The buyer is global anti-piracy outfit Irdeto, which specializes in protecting all kinds of content, with an emphasis on the audio-visual sector. The news comes a day after Denuvo's latest protection was defeated by pirates after a couple of months in the wild. And now a new development has the potential to herald a new lease of life for the Austria-based anti-piracy company. A few moments ago it was revealed that the company has been bought by Irdeto, a global anti-piracy company with considerable heritage and resources.

Doug Lowther, CEO at Irdeto, said:

The success of any game title is dependent upon the ability of the title to operate as the publisher intended. As a result, protection of both the game itself and the gaming experience for end users is critical. Our partnership brings together decades of security expertise under one roof to better address new and evolving security threats. We are looking forward to collaborating as a team on a number of initiatives to improve our core technology and services to better serve our customers.

Reinhard Blaukovitsch, Managing Director of Denuvo, said:

Hackers and cybercriminals in the gaming space are savvy, and always have been. It is critical to implement robust security strategies to combat the latest gaming threats and protect the investment in games. Much like the movie industry, it’s the only way to ensure that great games continue to get made. In joining with Irdeto, we are bringing together a unique combination of security expertise, technology and enhanced piracy services to aggressively address security challenges that customers and gamers face from hackers.

Denuvo staff will continue operations as usual and all the staff is expected to remain employed at their previous headquarters facility.

All Denuvo cracks bypass the protection in some way. There is no way to remove or disable it.

Sold?  I'd rather see those rotten creeps go bankrupt and have to sell their office chair at a garage sale.
Yes, I'm one of those people affected by that called protection which screwed up my machine. It's amazing how much better things were when it was gone. Though there's another DRM software that messed things up worse for me.
To make those things work, they don't play nice with the rest of the system, and go into areas and do things authorized software isn't supposed to do, so it's not really surprising that they can and sometimes do cause issues with both performance and functionality of other things.
Besides, they're fighting the tide here. Somebody will ALWAYS find a way to defeat it, and if you want to stop most unauthorized copying, the less intrusive DRMs work nearly as good, with far less issues, and are cheaper to use. Using Denuvo is chasing another percent or two, not ten or twenty. And as to the 30 day launch window safety they switched their spin on press releases to after they got cracked, that's long gone too. They're doing it in under a week now, sometimes far less than a week.

AC Origins was released on October 27th and still no crack. It can be cracked, it just takes time, I guess.
