FIFA 19 will not have cross-platform multiplayer, but one day ...

Successful games such as Fortnite, Minecraft and Rocket League can partly attribute their success to being cross-platform titles, or what they allow to their players is to hang and offend in multiplayer regardless of which platforms they're playing on. Of course, there are certain limitations, primarily in the form of PlayStation 4, but it can be said that this thing is feasible and that it is definitely the future towards which more games should be looking.

One of these games is FIFA, and fans of this series have long wanted to cross the PS4, Xbox and PC platforms. Not only would this increase player base that can be played in multiplayer, but it would also allow one player to play on multiple platforms, for example, start the season on the console and finish it on a computer.

Unfortunately, FIFA 19 will not have such features, but it's good to know that EA Sports is thinking about these things. FIFA creative director Matt Prior told Eurogamer at E3 the following:

"It's something we've looked at, and it's something we often talk about, before suggesting first-party policy is to blame. There are a lot of issues to work through. I'm trying to be diplomatic here! There are a lot of issues to work through with various first parties. But Fortnite does that now with PC to consoles. From a consumer standpoint, it makes the community that much broader, which makes it that much more compelling," said diplomat Prior.

But although FIFA is currently unable to offer cross-platform options, FIFA creative director warns that one day we should get something like that.

"It's something we're aware of," he said. "I'm not making any promises. But you've seen that [cross-platform play] happen for the first time very recently. If you'd asked me that a few years ago I'd probably have said, 'it's not going to happen. We'll monitor and see.' I think it would be a net benefit to the users. One day!" concluded Prior.
