5 Games Breaking Sales Records This Generation

  • 23

Monster Hunter World

The game proved a hit not only in Japan, but across the world, and within only two months of its release it managed to blow past developer Capcom’s expectations and sell over 7.5 million copies.

God of War

Not only did it exceed publisher Sony’s expectations, but it managed to sell over 3.1 million units in its first three days of availability, making it the fastest selling PlayStation 4 title of all time.

Spider-Man

It’s no surprise, then, that the game has smashed records left and right in the few weeks since its release, rising to the top of the list for fastest-selling Marvel games of all time within only three days.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

It came as a surprise though, when the long-time king of Zelda game sales Ocarina of Time was recently dethroned as the best selling title of all time in Japan by the recent Nintendo Switch game Breath of the Wild.

Pokémon Sun and Moon

As one of the most valuable properties in the world, the Pokémon franchise is no stranger to record-breaking sales. It did come as a surprise, however, when the latest entries in the series, Sun and Moon, smashed past expectations to become the biggest launch in the series’ history back in 2016. Within the first month alone, the game’s tropical region and new takes on some of the series’ classic monsters drew in enough players to sell 3.7 million units, blitzing past the original record holders Black and White. Not only that, but it continued to sell impressively for a current grand total of 16.12 million copies, currently resting in the number three slot for best selling 3DS titles of all time.

My Opinion on these based on the games, themselves:

Monster Hunter World
Great game, cool gameplay, awesome graphics. Definitely deserves to be on the list.

God of War
One of THE best game, period. 100% should be there.

Spider-Man
Just three days? Not one? It is beyond epic. Insomniac did the most magnificent job ever. Just wow, down to every detail and suit from previous Spider-Man games and the detail to real life replica of the city; just wow.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of Nintendo
LAME. Low graphics, decent gameplay, not all that great of a game; just was pushed hard by Nintendo controlling it all, creating a new gaming system, and 'Nostalgia' due to its long history and fans.... it was the fanbase and NINTENDO that sold it; not the game itself.
Also, it overshadowed awesome games like New Hero Dawn and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice which were leagues better and should have sold way more than Breath of the Wild.

Pokemon Sun and Moon
Refer to the previous, but still, awesome game, really! This one would deserve...if only not by Nintendo and their history and fanbase for Pokemon.

Note: Spider-Man may be fanbase driven too, but least it had so much game to back it up
Side note: yeah...I have a bias against Nintendo due to monopoly, history, copyrights, and so-called nostalgia even though they have new game of each series every other year to every year, making anything they make automatically sell hugely and skew charts of games sold only due to that....instead of gamers judging by the actual games...they'd rather go with Nintendo cause they are Nintendo; forget the game.
