Three Wild West Myths That Red Dead Redemption Sins
RDR 2 is currently the best game in the setting of the Wild West, but it is not without flaws. One of the categories of "hack-work", roughly speaking, is the maintenance of various myths about the life of cowboys. We will tell you about them, so, settle down and listen :)
Myth one: the cowboys did not use revolvers.
More precisely used, but not as often as they try to prove to us. The fact is that this weapon very quickly broke down due to the climatic conditions of the Wild West. False positives, misfires due to constantly getting inside the dust - common problems. The most popular weapon at the time were shotguns and rifles, and rifles were used for firing at long distances.
Myth two: duels were rare
Often, both in RDR 2 and in other games about the Wild West, we encountered separate duel mechanics when two shooters stood opposite each other and competed in the weapon withdrawal and accuracy rates. But the fact is, for the murder, people preferred to use ambushes and beat them on the sly, but not to enter the field and risk their lives. Everyone wanted to live, because no one had any particular confidence in what kind of skills a potential opponent has. Duels, of course, happened, but they were rather the exception to the rule and gathered a whole bunch of people as spectators.
Myth Three: Stealing was one of the most serious crimes.
In games you often have to change horses, appropriating foreign racers. Of course, some kind of fine was imposed on you, but no serious consequences after the committed were foreseen. In the real Wild West, horse stealing was considered the most profitable business, and stealing other people's horses was a grave crime. For him you could well hang, if caught, of course. And here you would not get off with a simple fine of 5 bucks.
Here we have such erroneous myths about the Wild West.
