Rewatch the massive Marshmello concert held in Fortnite yesterday

Remember our Daily Grind about in-game concerts on Friday? It wasn’t based on a hypothetical; it was inspired by the plan to put on a Marshmello concert in Fortnite, which thereby became one of dozens of online games that have hosted live concerts over the years, though this was by far the biggest: DJ Marshmello himself claimed “millions” in attendance, with hundreds of thousands more watching on Twitch.

As Babagra.pl’s Kinya related, Epic disabled some social functions and basic battle royale modes and added a concert limited mode for the event, with weapons disabled so the concert couldn’t be ruined by shenanigans.

The only downside I can think of here is that a couple million kids will now spell “marshmallow” wrong for the rest of their lives.

We made history today! The first ever live virtual concert inside of @fortnite with millions of people in attendance. So insane, thank you epic games and everyone who made this possible! pic.twitter.com/xdaNGnyMr9

The #Marshmello concert in #Fortnite went really well, which is awesome news for online worlds getting worldier. But not "unprecedented." This is AAA gaming catching on a decade late. Suzanne Vega in Second Life: 2006. Full orchestras: 2007. User-created music in LOTRO: 2007.
