According to an article from US Gamer, Motion Twin game designer Sébastien Bénard told the audience present at GDC 2019 that 60 percent of those sales are accounting PC and that Switch and PS4 have proved to be integral to Dead Cells' success.

Ever since the game was first released in early access back in May 2017, it was met with praise from both players and critics alike. In August 2018, the game fully launched with its 1.0 update.
