How Bioware's ANTHEM became one of the biggest flops in recent gaming history

  • 62

There was a time when Bioware could do no wrong.  After years of making hit games, they embarked on their most ambitious project yet.  Anthem was first teased in 2012, and almost 7 years of development later, it launched to abysmal failure.

A very in-depth expose by Kotaku has put Bioware on the defensive.   So what went wrong exactly?  For starters, the named was changed to Anthem only a week before the 2017 E3 reveal because of trademark problems.  Coupled with bad management, understaffed departments, major design overhauls and total burnout of everyone involved, Anthem had no chance in hell of making it.

Bioware finally addressed the article by publishing a blog post and sending out an email to all their staff by vowing to “continue working to slove (the issues)” highlighted by Kotaku.

If Netflix or Hulu could get ahold of this story and make it into a movie, it would be the Fyre Festival of the gaming world.

The original article is a fascinating read.  Warning…it’s really long…
