Le Monde: Assassin's Creed Unity will not be used to restore Notre Dame de Paris
A few days ago, many media around the world began to suggest that the work of Ubisoft during the production of Assassin's Creed Unity can help in the reconstruction of Notre Dame de Paris. Some publications even stated it directly.
Had this happened, it would have turned out to be a interesting story about how a video game helped in restoring an architectural landmark, but the truth turned out to be much more mundane.
About this in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde said Cédric Gachaud - CEO of Life3D, who created the model of the cathedral for reconstruction, which began shortly before the recent fire.
According to him, the developers of Unity have done an amazing job, but they are graphic artists who have worked on the basis of photographs and publicly available plans. In their work, they allowed liberties - they do not care if a certain statue was two meters higher, which is very important when rebuilding a building.
Therefore, for a complete reconstruction, special tools and data are required which graphic designers do not use, since they need to create an imitation of reality, and not recreate reality as such.
