Borderlands 3 will take 30 hrs to beat, will have cosmetic microtransactions
The creative director of Borderlands 3, Paul Sage, confirmed in an interview with PCGamer that the new game will take around 30 hrs to beat if players focus solely on the main story quests:
"If you beeline it through, and I mean beelining it through, it might take you 30 hours to complete the main story," Sage said.
The length of the new entry in the series is comparable to that of the previous entry, as the site How Long To Beat notes that Borderlands 2's main story took around 31 hrs to beat.
The other bit of news comes from Twitter, where Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox, wanted to confirm that the only cosmetics available in BL3 will be skins for the characters (similar to what they did in BL2), and there will be no loot boxes or premium currency. He even attack GameInformer and claimed their newest article is pure clickbait:
Game InformerDespite Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford's comment about "no microtransactions" in Borderlands 3 during today's livestream, we've been told cosmetic items are still purchasable https://www.gameinformer.com/2019/05/01/borderlands-3-wont-have-loot-boxes
Replying to @gameinformerCome on guys - shitty clickbait headline. Literally seconds before I said that, I made it very clear we’re going to do more cosmetic stuff like we did in Borderlands 2. You know I was talking about premium currency and loot boxes kind of stuff NOT being in our game.
This was also confirmed via PCGamer a couple of days ago. Gearbox want players to fully enjoy BL3 and don't intend adding Loot and XP boosts to the game:
"While Borderlands 3 is not a competitive game, where boosts could lead to direct player advantages and be considered a competitive concern, we still take balance of the progression and loot systems in the game very seriously. We are still fine-tuning these systems in Borderlands 3, and the benefits the boosts in the Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Collector’s Edition will provide, but at this stage we can confirm that the Loot and XP boosts will both be level capped and tied to specific pieces of gear, similar to boosts in past Borderlands games. The intent is to give those players an initial boost, but not something that permeates the entire Borderlands 3 experience indefinitely."
