Capcom by accident released Resident Evil 2 without Denuvo protection

Like other Capcom games, Resident Evil 2 uses a controversial DRM protection called Denuvo. Hackers and pirates this did not stop to release the game without this protection, but now Capcom did a favor also to those who did not have anything with the illegal acquisition of Resident Evil 2.

Namely, the DRM-free version of the executable file for RE2, based on the latest (1.04) version of the game, appeared on the Internet. To make things funny, the same thing also happened to Capcom two months ago with the game Devil May Cry 5.

In comparison, without the support for the Denuvo. file size is 170 MB, while with Denuvo size is 362 MB. Of course, the file was shared probably by accident or more likely - by mistake, and it was also quickly removed. But, as you know, nothing can disappear from the Internet as long as there is someone who has an interest in sharing a particular material.

It remains to be seen whether the DRM-free version of the file will in anyway affect the performance of the game. Denuvo protection in some cases was controversial because it affects the performance and loading speed. In the case of Devil May Cry 5, which uses the same engine as Resident Evil 2, Denuvo knew how to slow down the game for about a good dozen of frames per second, but as the game was well optimized, this mostly occurred in scenarios where FPS was above 100.
