Steam Client UI Appears Ready for a Revamp in a Few Weeks
Get ready for a newer, slicker looking Steam Client Interface. Steam DB announced on Twitter that a work-in-progress version of a revamped Steam interface was accidentally leaked through an update to the Chinese Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launcher
It still look slike Steam but with a more modern twist.
The navigation bar remains similar but the games library has slightly different sorting mechanics with recent games followed by the entire library. Library screens for individual games are also different.
In the inventory screen, there’s a nice little hover effect for when you mouse-over Steam trading cards. It all looks pretty decent and the change isn't too drastic that people would hate it.
There's no news of when it would possibly be rolled out or if further changes will be enacted. But UI changes usually make players extremely vocal, so hopefully Steam will be taking feedback before it rolls out.
Update
Valve's now confirmed it's coming soon and has given developers a quick tour. The public beta is expected to start in a few weeks.
According to Valve, the new Library "brings together a player’s experience with a game and new content/communications from the developer and community in a richer, more visual layout."
There will be a central page for our game collection, which looks like an enhanced, prettier version of the grid option but allows you to still see the game list in the sidebar, so it's the best of both worlds. This page will be customisable, so you can display your entire library or use filters to tweak what's visible. I like the update banner at the top, too, reminding you of cool new stuff appearing in games you own.
