PlayStation is closing down Sony Japan Studio

  • 1

Many employees behind famous games such as Shadow of the Colossus, Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima,... were forced to leave by the company.

According to Video Games Chronicle, Japan Studio - the developer known for titles like Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian - laid off most of its veteran employees. The Astro Bot game development team will continue to work and at the same time take over a number of employees from other departments, but most of them fall into a state of "nowhere to go". Even Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama suffered the same fate (but fortunately he found a new job at Bokeh Game Studio). Maybe because CEO Jim Ryan feels that Sony's profit is not high enough, and the reduction of staff to focus on other blockbuster projects like God of War or Spider-Man will help improve the situation. This also follows several high profile staff at the studio leaving.

Masaaki Yamagiwa - the father of the game Bloodborne said he will leave Sony Interactive Entertainment at the end of February 2021, and will continue to do his best in his way of making games.

Ryo Sogabe - the person behind the "cinematic" films in games like Uncharted and Ghost of Tsushima - also posted about this incident.

I was quite shocking when heard this news, how could Sony even come with this solutions ? They are shooting on their own foot right now, this is such a sad news for the gaming community
