Thoughts on the Idleverse v2.0
"The structure of the metacosmos may seem confusing and at times even contradictory, but here's what you've gathered so far:
- each reality, or "idleverse", exists in parallel to all others"
- most realities seem to converge towards the production of a sole type of item (ours evidently being, thanks to you, cookies)
- each reality is riddled with chaotic tunnels to a number of subordinate dimensions (such as the so-called "cookieverse"), much like swiss cheese
- all realities bathe in an infinite liquid of peculiar properties, colloquially known as "milk"
Finally, each reality may have its own interpretation of the concept of "reality", for added fun.
The idle game Cookie Clicker hit Steam on 1 Sep, 2021 without much fanfare. Still the game managed to sell far more than 1 million copies for EUR 3.99/USD 4.99 in the last two weeks according to steamspy.com.
An idle game about making cookies! Originally released in 2013 on the web, and actively developed since then. This is the official version for Steam.

Version History
08/08/2013 - game launch
• made the game in a couple hours, for laughs
• kinda starting to regret it
• ah well
Orteil created Cookie Clicker on August 8, 2013. Orteil created the game in a single day and posted it on 4chan, garnering 50,000 players in only 1 hour. The game was fairly simple at first, and by the 24th of the same month, he made a new version of the game at a different URL. The old game would later be known as "Cookie Clicker Classic".
Why buy on Steam?
The web version has a Patreon link so the developer would be better served if people pay him there instead of making Valve richer with their 30% cut.
The Steam version has music composed for the game and no ads. Hmm, you've heard of ad blockers haven't you?
The game has 518 cheevos not counting the illusive(elusive) shadow achievements. Bingo
Hardware requirements and limitations
Yes you heard it right your hardware may not be up to snuff for this game if you reach more than the first googol cookies. Ten duotrigintillion, informally called a googol, is the large number 10^100. In decimal notation, it is written as the digit 1 followed by one hundred zeroes: 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
Fun fact: the guys behind Google made a serious spelling error.
Health risks
As the game may cause addiction it's maybe dangerous for your mental health and social life. Your carpal tunnel syndrome is prone to get worse.
Why is it so popular?
I think it ticks many boxes. When you love one or more of the following: grandmas, farming, wizardry, stock market, dragons you'll probably like this game. Minigames to these topics are included in Cookie clicker.
"The two most requested features we get are dragons and multiplayer. We got one of them this time."
- Todd Howard
Ir's not a simple game
Because the rules are simple a game must not be simple as is the case in Go or Chess. The Wiki pages testify the complexity of Cookie Clicker.
While usually underlying game mechanics are kept under the hood in idle games the mechanics are quite obvious albeit not the formulas which essentially make up the core game.
Personally I like those games as you can see the different algorithms working like gears in a clockwork a thing of mathematical beauty.
Who is Orteil?
I'm happy to see his game finally on Steam and so far he did well for himself earning probably a few million dollars for eight years of development.
A word of caution:
Don't trust Steam users sporting this badge they are cheating with auto clickers.laugh

I offer my apologies for creating a version 1 with no content it was unintentional. If you'd ask me to do it I couldn't. I can't even delete the damned thing and blame it on the wonkyness of the site.
