Before Uncle Ether hits me

Can an effort be made to close the threads older than 2 months by someone much higher up the chain? I just responded to a post that was significantly not very old, only to catch that the original was much much older. I was responding to the latest post because I thought I had useful information. I think my mistake is following the last posting date/time on the board.

is posting worth it ?  in new information here is almost a waste of time

Personally I'd rather keep one thread per topic alive instead of making a new one just because the other one is old. As long of course as the information is still up-to-date/usable. I know most forums prefer new threads instead of "necroing" though.

I actually agree with you SteamedToast. I don't mind skipping to last page to read on the topic, but if "necroing" is going to have admin's sending a note every time, then it's time to rethink the structure.

I did not expect you to get a message when you aren't even the person who necrod the thread. Shouldn't that have gone to the person before you? I mean if the thread is already on the front page again because someone wrote something new, what harm do you do in replying to that?
Did they at least close the topic in question after contacting you?

Just tried locking a thread* for the first time today** and got an error message for my trouble. So we can't even stop necroing the simple way without relying on mods/admins.

Prozac0 is correct, I tried the same to close others. Was a learning experience. :)
