The newest Season of Black Ops 6 and Warzone is out, and all it’ll cost you is a measly 37 GB! (on PC.)  It might sound like a lot, but this update is surprisingly small compared to updates of the past. Players can check out new multiplayer maps for Black Ops 6, Grief Mode in Zombies, a new POI in Verdansk, and much more.

Players wanting to give Grief Mode, original zombies, and multiplayer a try can do so for a short free trial period from May 30th – June 3rd.

Changes to Black Ops 6

The Overlook

The new POI, known as The Overlook, is a towering new skyscraper right in the heart of Verdansk. The tower is so large, in fact, that the nostalgic Burger Town has been moved for its installation. The new addition forces players to focus on vertical gameplay and provides opportunities for both close and long-range engagements. Facing threats both above and below challenges players to be even more aware of their surroundings. That is, if players can get through the security checkpoints and construction around the building first. The Outlook also offers a fresh vantage point for snipers -good luck!

Grief Mode in Zombies

Grief Mode is back and updated for modern gameplay! Originally introduced in Black Ops 2, Grief is a 4v4 indirect PvP mode where two teams compete to outlast each other amidst the zombie hordes. Direct damage to opposing players is disabled. Each round is accelerated, throwing more zombies at players to increase the challenge. To combat the more challenging rounds, the game-changing pack-a-Punch, Perk machines, and Crafting Tables are available within the arena for players, salvage pickups are more valuable, and downed teammates can be revived at any time. If your team can’t get back to you, there’s a Wave Respawn every third match which will revive all downed players on either side, and if your friend wants to join in, they’ll be able to up until round 10.

As the name suggests, players will have access to “Griefs” to hinder the other team. They won't win the game on their own, but their use can range from annoying to devastating, depending on how the other team uses them.

Griefs include:

Weapon Carousel - Randomly swaps the enemy team's weapons at intervals, potentially leaving them with less effective arms

Ammo Drain - Gradually depletes the opposing team's ammunition reserves, forcing them to adapt quickly.
Frozen: Slows down enemy movement and encases characters in ice, making them more vulnerable

Zombie Ambush - Summons an elite zombie that targets the rival team exclusively until defeated or the effect expires

New Maps

Three new maps debuted in this update, offering fresh scenery with opportunities for both close and long-range combat as well as giving aggressive playstyles a leg up in more scenarios.

Fugitive

Fugitive transports players to a remote jungle village, blending natural terrain with man-made structures. The map offers a mix of open sightlines and concealed pathways, catering to both long-range engagements and stealthy approaches.

Shutdown

Set within a decommissioned nuclear power plant, Shutdown features a complex layout of spinning turbines and narrow corridors. The map's design emphasizes close-quarters combat, with multiple entry points and vertical elements that encourage strategic movement and positioning.

Blitz

Blitz is set in a bustling urban environment, characterized by tight alleyways and multi-level buildings. The fast-paced nature of the map demands quick reflexes and adaptability, making it ideal for aggressive playstyles and close-range weaponry.

Changes to Warzone

New changes to Warzone have been made to reshape the gameplay dynamics and offer fresh content. Along with the following changes, there’s also the return of Clash Mode, Casual-Friendly Resurgence Mode, new weapons and equipment, and weapon balancing.

Solo Battle Royale Temporarily Removed

Controversially, Battle Royale Solos has been temporarily removed and replaced with Battle Royale Casual Solos to foster the growth of Casual Solos. Devs have stated that this is a temporary change, but have not stated when Battle Royale Solos will make its return. The change was made to manage the amount of active playlists to properly allocate time and resources, and although it might lead to disappointment, you can’t argue that the team doesn’t already have a lot to manage.

The Gulag

Players in the Gulag will now get a helpful leg up, starting with a single armor plate equipped. This new change will help balance the weapons, as the previous starting health had enabled some weapons to eliminate players much faster than intended. This change is intended to make battles more competitive to see who will redeploy to the Warzone.

Introduction of Havoc Royale

A new limited-time mode (LTM) set on Rebirth Island called Havoc Resurgence launches in this update, blending the fast-paced action of Resurgence with unpredictable gameplay modifiers that keep each match fresh and chaotic. As the game unfolds, players receive up to three random Havoc Perks that significantly alter gameplay dynamics and stack over time. These perks include: Super Speed: Increased movement velocity for rapid repositioning, Unlimited Ammo: Infinite ammunition, eliminating the need to reload, and Random Killstreaks: Earn a random killstreak every three eliminations, adding unpredictability to combat.

This isn’t a comprehensive list, but boy, there’s already a lot of updates and changes to go along with the usual gameplay balances and patches. Players certainly have a lot to look forward to. Are you going to check it out?
