Star Citizen in the end will not get support for DirectX 12
If ever is completed, Star Citizen will be a game where every ounce of energy will be required to achieve the grand universe that was imagined by Cloud Imperium Games. Because of that it was previously announced that the game will greatly rely on DirectX 12 API and very similar Vulkan. But, now is made known that support of DX12 will not be, at all.
From Cloud Imperium state that they during the development of the game realize how DirectX 12 does not offer almost no advantage over the Vulkan API so they`ve fully dedicated themselves to the latter. As they say, 95% of the stuff in both API is based on a paradigm shift of rendering and to it they come with very similar methods. But, between them there is one key difference - for the DirectX 12 you have to use Windows 10, while for the Vulkan you don`t have to.
Cloud Imperium Games therefore decided that it is better that they do not force the players to upgrade Windows if they still use seven and eight. Instead, Vulkan will be a platform for all versions of the game, including also that one for Linux.
