Ubisoft responds to criticism about microtransactions in For Honor

  • 219

You may remember that last weekend one For Honor fan calculated how much time or money will cost to get all of available supplements in the game and came up with a little bit shocking figures. It seems that the discussion that followed continued to smolder in the community, however, neither Ubisoft could not fail to notice it and reflect on the presented criticism.

On the official livestream of Ubisoft officer in charge of the community Emile Gauthier and Director For Honor Damien Kieken have talked among other things about the idea behind the system microtransactions and editing characters you'll find in the attached video at 23:30.

In short, Kieken explains that it is not intended that players unlock everything in the game, so they predicted that individual player will mostly play one to three characters and focus on them. For comparison, he offers an example that when you enter the store that you have come for something that you need or enjoy, you are not there to buy everything that is available.

Sounds like it might be something behind this explanation, but of course that any statement even more stirred the debate on the various networks. Some say that it is a bad design to expect the player to play only a few characters and make the game around this idea, others still are not satisfied with what is charged for microtransactions on top of full market prices, but still remains the problem that supplements are not only cosmetic but have an impact on gameplay.

Bad comparison, nobody want to pay $50 for enter in a store

The game is really overpriced i regret paying 60€ for it but the microtransactions? come on ppl its just in-game currency which you can easily get from playing the game, and yes you probably wont be playing all the characters only a few at first, and from the Story mode you unlock some colors, decorations and cosmetics.
I hate micro transactions as well but in this game its totally acceptable for me.

"It is not intended that players unlock everything in the game"

It just doesn't matter whenever you intended it or not, people will still buy lots of shit, either because they are rich, they have parents with money, or they just don't have anything else better to do with their money.

And it just makes the game a pay2win if the store doesn't exclusively have only cosmetics, it just doesn't work to make your own idea of a character with a few purchases, when there will be people who buys 5 times more shit than you with superior equipment.

Pay 2 win is cancer of gaming, A normal monthly subscribe, to get it all. Would be enough.

Ubisoft choose a wrong way. I hope they are thinking about it.

Microtransactions killing sense of competitive games, because there will always be someone who will pay more.

Meh, these microtransaction stuff...

If it is only for cosmetic stuff i don't have a problem with it (lie. ike the ingameshop of WoW, ..)  but this?

so you only buy a half game for a full price, yes?
