Indie gem Cuphead is selling like crazy

  • 453

It has been a long time since when platformer Cuphead was announced for the first time, and its artistic style - inspired by Disney and Fleischer Studios cartoons - has already created a big fan base. Three years later, this indie jewel finally arrived in our hands and it seems that have not in the slightest disappointed players all over the world.

Namely, Cuphead came to us on Xbox One and Steam just last week, precisely 29th of September, and brutally challenging challenges decided to serve us for 20 euros. Many players believe that the money they have spend for the game is well-spent money, and it seems that their only complaint is that cause of this title they will have to buy a new controller.

In particular, the cartoon Cuphead currently handles high ratings on Metacritic - 87 for PC and 86 for Xone - with what cleaned itself one beautiful path to success. Additionally, this game on Steam bought more than 125 thousand players in just four days. It is no exaggeration to say that this figure is very impressive since the game is considered a hellishly challenging platformer.

With the consideration of such nice start we can say that Cuphead has already built the foundation for its success, and we wonder what kind of success will achieve developers when they add online co-op.

The difficulty of this game reminds me of this gameplay of a video journalist...

BTW I didn't watch it until the end. Felt like I'm gonna get a cancer.

This game looks so original and crazy, I hope they gonna sell much more.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

I can say that this game is really amazing. It can be recorded as an epic platform shooter game in history.

Also, this game has tons of easter egg. You can even finish a stage without knockout the boss.

This really blew overnight, from me hearing about it from a friend just a day prior to its launch, to now being everywhere and now potentially becoming the game of the year. It clearly shows effort and actual passion in it because it was developed ever since 2010, where they tried to follow Super Meat Boy's success.

You should've also mentioned that all of the animation is completely hand drawn. Imagine you and a couple of people trying to draw animations and frames completely by hand not for a 5-10 minute animation, but for a game that has approx. 15 hours of gameplay. Apparently the drawing team were perfectionists, so a lot of the initial art was scrapped to smooth it out and flesh out details that the general player wouldn't notice anyway.

This won't really set a bar on anything in mainstream gaming though. It's one of those outlier games which the devs didn't have the profit mindset to compromise the quality of the game, and being and indie and all they had all the time in the world to develop it (which was 7 years), so i doubt any game is going to follow this example since again, it's just an outlier with a huuge development time.

The sale numbers are well-deserved, not only is the gameplay great, but the artstyle is absolutely unique and fantastic
