Microsoft Could Acquire Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds

With three million Xbox One owners playing the game, it’s clear that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is slowly rising to become one of the most successful video games on the Microsoft system. This success also gives Microsoft and its Xbox division a huge boost going further into 2018. The game is yet to appear on the Sony PlayStation 4, and while Fortnite has a similar Battle Royale mode, the game overall is no match for the fun PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is able to deliver.

Microsoft will need to consider its next move in the coming months because Bluehole, the developer behind the game, might not stay independent forever. Therefore, the software giant must keep a fruitful relationship with the developer with the intention of a potential acquisition, even if Bluehole launches the title on the PlayStation 4. There was a time when Microsoft as a company, was solely focused on advancing its own operating system and products. Things have changed since Satya Nadella took over from Steve Ballmer as the company’s new CEO.

What we have today is a new Microsoft that is more open to others. This is proven by the acquisition of Minecraft, a game that was already available for PC, Xbox, and the PlayStation. After buying the game and the studio behind it, the software giant ensured the title was released on the Wii U and later the Nintendo Switch. Microsoft is even pushing for cross-platform play between itself, Nintendo, and Sony. So far, only Nintendo has answered the call, while Sony continues to weigh its options.

With all of this in mind, it’s clear that the American tech giant would have little issues in acquiring Bluehole, even if PUBG isn’t an Xbox and PC exclusive experience.

And which do you think they'll do between a well recognized popular title, they can keep to themselves, or "gamble" with a new IP?

Galactic

They could, why not? The game is a sell blockbuster, and they have do it this before a few times.

Planetary

I wonder how much they would be willing to pay to get it, like the upper limit.
