Raiders of the Broken Planet Relaunching as “Spacelords”, a Free to Play

  • 2058

Today Spanish developer MercurySteam announced that its self-publisher shooter/brawler Raiders of the Broken Planet will relaunch as “Spacelords”. It's happening on August 23rd, and the relaunch will be accompanied by a move to a fully free to play business model.

On top of this change, the same day will also mark the release of the game’s fourth campaign Council Apocalypse. It’ll include four new missions and the new recruitable character Valeria. All this content will also be free.

The studio is keen to clarify that Spacelords is not just an update, but they consider it a “new game built on the back of Raiders of the Broken Planet.” They promise a “huge, new sci-fi universe” for newcomers to the franchise, while veterans will see their requests fulfilled.

Those who already purchased the game’s campaigns won’t be left behind. MercurySteam pledged to provide them with “exclusive, top-quality game content that won’t be available to anyone else.” On top of that, for those who want to experience the game before the relaunch, starting on July 23rd the free mission of the week will actually shift to a daily rotation, and the Gold price required to rent missions will be reduced significantly.

Spacelords launches on August 23rd, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC
