Diablo 4 announcement was reportedly pulled from BlizzCon at the last minute

The original plan at BlizzCon 2018 was for a video from company co-founder Allen Adham to close the keynote. In that video, Adham would confirm that Diablo 4 was in development but not yet ready for a public showing.

That info comes from two anonymous sources speaking to Kotaku. One of those sources says that Diablo 4 has “changed drastically” since entering development nearly half-a-decade ago, and it could still be in store for further changes.

Diablo 4’s development is, at this point, an open secret. Blizzard has hinted numerous times that the game is coming, including in a recent blog post that attempted to manage expectations going into BlizzCon.

Clearly, those attempts at cooling the jets of Diablo fans haven’t worked out. Blizzard has said (again) that multiple Diablo projects are in the works, but the virulent reaction to the Diablo Immortal announcement hasn’t gotten any less pronounced in the meantime. There is a proper Diablo coming, but it might still be a long way off.
