Fortnite's planes will be vaulted when Season 8 begins

During a Fortnite Battle Royale AMA, Fortnite design lead Eric Williamson confirmed that the divisive X-4 Stormwings are heading to the vault when Fortnite Season 8 begins next week. 

"Planes will be vaulted at the start of Season 8. Get your airtime in now!" 

Planes were an exciting addition at the start of Season 7, but their machine guns were far too accurate, and they were able to take one hell of a beating while boosting through buildings and objects. Player feedback was largely unanimous, resulting in a couple nerfs that reduced machine gun accuracy and took away its ability to crash through buildings. 

Which is why I'm surprised they're getting shelved at all. Patch 7.40 got planes into great shape and introduced a long-awaited health reward for kills. Fortnite's in a lovely place right now. 

I'm guessing there's a good reason. With earthquakes shaking the island and leaving cracks all over its northeast corner, I feel like my watery map update theory is, well, holding water. Planes might be going away (for now), but rather than flutter across the sky, I'm thinking we might do something similar under the sea in Season 8. 

Also, look at the newest skin. I mean, c'mon. We're trading planes for scuba gear, maybe submarines. I'll eat my goggles if I'm wrong.
