Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for PS4 banned in Russia

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare becomes a controversial title before the premiere. This is due to the allegedly brutal content of the story campaign, planned microtransports, and above all the Survival mode (for a year it will only be available on PlayStation 4). Infinity Ward's work also upset Russian players who were unable to place pre-orders for the game and download its beta version since mid-September. After a few weeks of silence, the official Call of Duty Twitter profile reported that Sony's Russian branch did not allow the game to be sold in the local version of PlayStation Store or distributed in Russia in a boxed version.

The situation is unclear - Sony and Activision do not want (or cannot) to clearly explain the reasons for such a controversial decision. Fans of the series speculate that the aforementioned story campaign should be guilty of putting Russian soldiers in a bad light.
Interestingly - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will appear in Russia without any problems on Xbox One and PCs.

The likely reason for the ban on PS4 is that Sony Interactive Entertainment's global structure is based on a network of partially independent national branches of the company conducting their own marketing and publishing activities. As a result, the local branch may be more sensitive to Russian pressure than Microsoft and Activision registered in the US (CoD: Modern Warfare will be available on PC via Battle.net).
