Why IGN is Delaying Their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Review
You're likely seeing the 2019 Call of Duty Iteration reviews pop up right now, but ours will take a little longer. In keeping with IGN policy, we did not send a reviewer to the recent Activision case.
That's for three reasons:
- In an event, you work with very limited time in tightly controlled conditions.
- It's a really bad look. Rightly or wrongly, a lot of people believe that events are big parties designed to brush up to critics and get better reviews. In reality, they're stressful like hell, and we've always hated doing it, but try to tell someone you're convinced you're on the take because you liked a video game they don't like.
- In this particular case, reviews for millions of people in New Zealand are carried out for 12 hours after public availability. As a rule, we're not willing to sit down on a review after the game comes out (again, something we've learned the hard way), so that's a non-starter for us.
Since 6 AM Pacific time this morning, our testers have played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Our goal-if everything goes according to plan-is to release a single-player campaign review by the end of the week, followed by a multiplayer test based on real-world experience on live servers by early next week.
Once those are complete, we will publish an overall review.
