Minecraft Snapshot 21W11A
The latest Java snapshot for Minecraft adds new functionality to Copper.
NEW FEATURES IN 21W11A
Copper ore is a mineral block found underground. And apparently, it'll be time to get some because there are some new features coming, related to Copper.
In this new snapshot, lightning rods can now, for the very first time ever, be waterlogged. Waterlogging is the mechanic that allows non-cube blocks (that is, blocks that do not
completely fill their block volume, such as doors, ladders, and plants) to be filled with a water source block. Both the non-cube block and the water source block occupy the same space. If the non-cube block is destroyed, the water source block remains.
Another new functionality is the ability to apply or remove wax from Copper. Waxing is the ability to use honeycomb on the block, in this case, Copper and changes the block into its waxed variant.
The last new functionality is bonemealing rooted dirt. It will cause hanging roots to grow below the block if there is space for it to grow. This can be used as a renewable source of hanging roots.
WAXING COPPER AND OXIDIZATION
To wax Copper blocks you have to right-click them with Honeycomb. Another way of waxing Copper blocks is by putting Honeycomb in a Dispenser. Every Copper block which will find itself in front of the dispenser will get waxed.
To remove wax or oxidation from Copper blocks you'll need an axe that can scrape it off.
Or oxidated Copper blocks can also lose their oxidation if it gets struck by lightning.
ADDITIONAL CHANGES IN 21W11A
- Waxed Copper Blocks can be crafted into 4 Copper Ingots
- Tweaked the cave sizes
- Slightly increased the frequency of Diamond Ore blobs
- Hanging roots block now renders randomly offset
- Breaking a Big Dripleaf stem now drops a Big Dripleaf Block
- Moss Blocks can be crafted with cobblestone or stone bricks to make the mossy versions of those blocks
- The facing direction of Small Dripleaf Blocks is now determined by which direction the player is facing when placing it
- Fully-grown Amethyst Clusters now drop 4 Amethyst Shards (or more with Fortune) when mined with a pickaxe, and drop 2 Amethyst Shards when broken by hand, piston, or other means
TECHNICAL CHANGES
A big technical change is the addition of the key combination F3+L. By pressing that key combination you'll be able to generate and persist performance metrics from in-game. A recording happens for 10 seconds which captures metrics as tick durations, used heap sizes, and other more detailed stats. Those statistics will be saved in a zip file in the debug/profiling folder on your hard drive.
The developers' plan is to continue iterating on which metrics need to get captured.
Furthermore, there are a lot of bug fixes for which you can get the list in the official blog post. Also, the way to get this snapshot is explained in that article.
Happy mining!
