Details and Release Date Revealed for Mafia III ‘Stones Unturned’ DLC
Hype for the DLC began yesterday in a tweet by the official Mafia Twitter page, Mafia Game. Today, May 4, 2017, the DLC’s release date was announced alongside a video detailing the expansion’s contents.
The expansion’s story will revolve around John Donovan, the CIA agent who helped Lincoln Clay the game’s player-character and protagonist in the vanilla version of Mafia III. The DLC will also feature a new environment, namely an island that pays homage to Vietnam’s atmosphere through a rainforest-jungle environment. New enemies also make their way between Lincoln and Donovan, and these enemies are highly trained mercenaries as opposed to the run-of-the-mill mafia goons inconveniencing players in Mafia III’s main story. To fight these mercenaries, new weapons will be available. Watch the full video detailing “Stones Unturned” below.
For players who cannot get enough of Mafia III and Lincoln Clay, another expansion ’Faster Baby!’ is already available, while a third ’Sign of the Times’ is expected to release in July. The expansions can be purchased individually or given to players who purchased Mafia III’s Season Pass.
Mafia III is the latest instalment in the Mafia series. Released on October 7, 2016, Mafia III is available for MacOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is developed by Hangar 13 and 2K Czech, and published by 2K Games.
The series as a whole debuted in 2002, with subsequent titles coming every six to eight years. Each game has revolved around an open-world atmosphere in fictional locales modelled after American cities in different eras. The first game is set in the 1930s, the second from 1943 to 1945 and progressing to the early 1950s, and Mafia III set in 1968.
