Anthem (Bioware's new IP) trailer, release date and news

E3 is always full of surprises and one announcement we weren't expecting was an whole new game from BioWare called Anthem.

From the short trailer shown at EA Play keynote we can get a tiny glimpse of the game world wall is the only thing that separates the civilized world from a dangerous and savage animals. Exosuits also seem to play a big part of surviving in the wilderness and player might jump into them as part of the game.

The team behind the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises are said to be working on Anthem.

BioWare describes Anthem as "a new game from EA's BioWare studio, explore a landscape of  primeval beauty, confront the dangers you find, and grow in power with every step."

While we've only gotten to see a short teaser trailer, EA promised we'll see more at Microsoft's keynote.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? BioWare's newest IP
  • When can I play it? To be announced
  • What can I play it on? To be announced

  • Life after Andromeda

Anthem will be Bioware's first title after the somewhat polarizing Mass Effect: Andromeda, a game that was both loved and hated.

Interestingly, though, Anthem seems to borrow heavily from Mass Effect, as well titles like Destiny and the smash manga, Attack on Titan.

The premise we know so far is that humanity is holed up in a bastion, cut off from the outside world. Venturing out, it appears, requires a suit of armor that will help fend off the wilds of the Pandora-esque planet.

We'll need to see more of the game outside of its 52-second trailer to make more deductions as to what's going on, but based on Bioware's love of outer space (see: Mass Effect and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic), we could very easily be looking at the developer's next big, Sci-Fi epic.

Interstellar

I'm not sure why they weren't expecting it, as news on the new Bioware IP was one of the more likely things to come from EA's presentation.  This definitely sounds good so far, so has me intrigued, though obviously it's very early.
