Developer "Inside" about the reasons for leaving Playdead and the new game
Last week, one of the developers of the famous platformer Inside told that he left the Playdead studio and moved to Jumpship, where he is working on a new project called Somerville. Now Dino finally talked about the reasons for his departure and what kind of a new game he is working on now.
As the publication Eurogamer, being one of the co-producers of Playdead Patti sold his share to the second owner Arnt Jensen last summer and received about 7 million dollars for it. On the break of business relations, he was prompted by personal reasons, which he prefers not to talk about, but the developer noted that Playdead always remains in his heart.
There was an unpleasant residue. There were personal reasons and this is a pretty subtle point. I really like Playdead, it's deep in my heart. These people are still my friends and I maintain a relationship with 98% of them.
For me it's time to do something else. I chose this method and now I can do what I want.
Somerville - a science fiction adventure, reminiscent of the classic game Another World and Flashback. The game is based on the rules and mechanics of color change and perspective. For Somerville, such a mechanic will become a distinctive language of narration, an important element of the gameplay. The plot will present a chronicle of the lives of several characters in the light of a global catastrophe.
Dino Patti participates in the development as an investor and a game adviser. According to him, it is very easy to destroy original ideas, and modern games lack quality. It is important that certain projects come out at the right time and then people will appreciate them.
The release date and platforms on which Somerville will be released are not yet announced.
